Okay, here goes. I've been roaming the anime and yaoi communities for damn near a decade. I passed through my callow youth with the aid of books and my own private worlds, and spent the currency of my teen years immersed in the ever-changing thematic wonder of anime. I respect Japanese animation as the inheritor of popular culture's discarded legacy of intellectual development and psychological exploration. Anime is also a helluva lot of fun, although books are still my first, greatest love. I'm old enough to be damn opinionated, and getting more so the longer I spend around the pervasive specimens of Homo Ridiculous that pass themselves off as modern human beings. I'm politically-minded, and don't like being pigeonholed into liberal or conservative.
Here's why:
Gun control is ridiculous. It's like trying to dam a river with a sieve. Teaching responsible gun use would be a better expenditure of money and time.
Abortion should be legal.
Religion has no place in politics.
Morality is not religion.
Spirituality is not religion, either.
Gay rights and gay marriage are good things. Excellent things. I may end up leaving this country because of those same issues.
Capital punishment is a great idea. I hate knowing that I'm working so that convicted murderers can eat.
I'm not a Christian. Living in a Christian country, particularly in the Deep South, makes me increasingly uncomfortable. The majority never knows how good they have it.
Okay. I AM a writer, and a poet. I used to write in the fanfiction community under the name Xellina-san. I was really young. I have since come to despise nearly everything I wrote, and the only unfinished thing I will ever try to complete is my Sen to Chihiro story, "Seven Stones for Kohaku." I may update this journal. I don't expect anyone to read it. I wish I spoke Japanese and I wish I lived in Japan.
